Traditional HTML/CSS Web Design

Although Content Management Systems have much to offer, there may be cases where a traditionally designed site works better for your business. This may be the case if you have a business that only needs a simple brochure style website where the content rarely changes and/or the site doesn’t need advanced functionality like e-commerce, blogs, rotating content, etc. Such businesses may also wish to avoid the extra time needed for maintenance and backups of a content managed site (though all websites will require some degree of maintenance – we can provide this service for you).

A traditional  site also allows for more flexibility in terms of the design, as content-managed sites tend to have a more rigid structure. There may be some highly artistic designs that don’t translate well to a grid structure. Also, if the person(s) who maintain your website is already comfortable with  HTML and CSS, Javascript, PHP, and other web-technologies, it may be preferable to continue utilizing these skills.

The choice between having a site built using traditional methods versus building on a content-managed framework can be daunting. Don’t feel like you have to make this decision on your own. During our initial consultation, we will help to assess your unique needs and recommend a solution that will work best for your situation.

Website design and development may be combined with our user research, interaction design, or UI/visual design services in order to better define your audience and their needs and expectations.

Process and Deliverables:

Project Discovery/Planning
All web design/development projects start with our Project Planning Process.

Domain Name and Hosting Setup
If you don’t already have a domain name or web hosting, we will help you to select the most appropriate options for your business needs and help with setup if you need it. We can also offer you our own web hosting package.

Sitemap/Navigational Scheme and Content Guide
Next, we’ll determine what kind of content and features will be needed for your site, then come up with a strategy to organize this information. You’ll get an outline with the navigational scheme and brief description of what content will go on each page.

Design
After learning about your target audience, we will prepare 3 custom designs for you to choose from or help you select an appropriate template (that can be used as-is or modified with your logo/color scheme).

Content
Last, we add your content and refine all the little details to make your site look professional and polished.

Testing and Delivery
Your website will be tested in major browsers for both design and performance issues, and any necessary revisions made.

Training
If you plan to maintain website content yourself, 2 hours of complimentary training will be provided via web-conference to teach you the basics.
